CA Foundation is an entry-level test designed for students who want to pursue the CA Course. Exams for the ICAI CA Foundation Course are conducted twice a year in June and December.

CA Foundation is the part of revised scheme introduced by the ICAI (in July 2017). CA Foundation replaced the old entry-level test CPT (Common Proficiency Test).

A student willing to join CA after class 12th  can register for the ICAI CA Foundation course. The complete CA Course duration is of 4.5 years from CA Foundation to CA Final. Candidates cleared their class 12th can apply for the CA Foundation course.

Your Journey to CA Foundation Examination (Dec 2021)

Check the complete journey that you’ll be covering in the CA Foundation Course for December 2021 from registration to appear in the examination to the results.

  1. Eligibility –After appearing in the 12th examination, you will be eligible to get register for the CA Foundation course. So register yourself. For the registration, you have to pay the fees of RS. 9400(including student’s journal fee).
  2. Preparation – Once you are registered you have to undergo a study period of four months to appear in the exam. The complete syllabus for the CA Foundation Course is discussed below. Prepare well for the exams. Don’t limit yourself just to crack this exam. You should prepare for a high score.
  3. Application Form – Applying for the Foundation exams that mean fill the application form through the ICAI portal. The application form dates for Dec 2021 exams are 16th August to 30th August, 2021. The exam form fees for Indian nationals are Rs. 1500 and for foreign students, it is $325.
  4. Admit Card – ICAI issues the admit card generally 21 days before the exams. You can download your admit card from the ICAI portal. You will not get the admit cards offline.
  5. Error Correction – If any error has occurred in filling the application form regarding the center/medium then one can apply for the correction. ICAI has provided the facility of two correction window, each has a separate time limit.
  6. The result – It is probable that the CA Foundation result will declare within 2 months from the Exams. The CA Foundation result of Dec 2021 examination shall be announced in February 2022.
  7. CA Foundation Cut-off Rate – To clear the foundation exam, you need to get  40% in each subjects or 50% total marks. That is the end of your 4 month CA Foundation Course.

Eligibility for Registration in CA Foundation

Exams for the CA Foundation will conduct twice a year i.e. June and December. A student can register in this course after appearing and clearing the 12th examination constituted by the law or recognized by the Central Government. After clearing the 12th exams, you need to register yourself for the upcoming examination, that will be in Dec, 2021.

As we all know that the commerce students have edge over the science and arts students in knowing the accounting concepts. However, science and arts students are equally eligible for the CA Examination. They just need to be dedicated towards their preparation.

Due to the delay in the Class 12th Central and State Boards Results declaration, ICAI has modified the eligibility criteria and allowed provisional registration for students who have not cleared their 12th Exams. For Graduates and Post-Graduates, who want to pursue CA, they can directly register for the CA Intermediate exam through the Direct Entry System. This means that they are exempted for the CA Foundation Exam.

Latest Update regarding registration for CA Foundation Course

The ICAI has recently got the government’s approval for amending the regulations 25E, 25F and 28F of Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988. That now allows candidates to preliminarily register for CA Foundation course after passing the Class 10th examinations. It is also announced that this preliminary admission will only be modulated or regularized when the candidate will pass the Class 12th exams.

The main motive behind this is that the students will get plenty of time to gain knowledge and obtain necessary techniques while pursuing Class 11th and Class 12th, and finally clear their CA Foundation exams with good grades.

CA Foundation Registration Procedure

You can register for the CA Foundation course through the ICAI portal under the Course registration forms (under the student’s tab). You have to make the requisite payment (check the fee, in the table mentioned below). Once the payment is successful, it will automatically generate the form which is required to get print. The registration is now closed for the CA Foundation Course of December 2021, as the last date is till 16th August.

Documents Required for Registration of CA Foundation Course

You’ll need some documents in order to register yourself for the CA Foundation Course. The necessary documents are mentioned below:

  • 10th Class Report Card
  • 12th Admit card
  • Passport-size Photo
  • Proof of Nationality for Foreign students

How to Register for the CA Foundation course?

For students who want to register for the foundation course, can follow the steps given below:

Step 1: Visit the ICAI portal. Go to the ‘Course Registration’ section under the Student’s tab.

Step 2: On the registration form section, click on ‘New User’.

Step 3: Enter the details such as name, DOB, Gender, Aadhar card number, mobile number, email-id and password.

Step 4: Click on “Generate OTO, you’ll get the OTP, and then verify it. The OTP will be sent on your registered mobile number and verification link on your email id.

Step 5: After verification, your personal profile is created and you will receiver the login credentials.

Step 6: You need to login and select the “student cycle”. Then click on ‘Apply for Foundation’, fill the necessary details and click on ‘Save and Next’.

Step 7: After filing all the required details, the next step is to pay the registration fees. The fees will be paid online, so you’ll need Master/Visa/Maestro Credit/Debit/Rupay/Net Banking Card to pay the fees.

Step 8: After the successful payment of the registration fee, you’ll get the registration form.

You have to deposit the form within 7 days, duly signed by the candidate along with the following documents –

    1. Attested Copy of the Admit Card/ Marksheet of class 12th examination issued by the respective board.
    2. You need to affix the latest colored photograph on the hard copy of such registration form.
    3. If the student is a Resident of another country, then attested copy of proof of Nationality.
    4. Attested copy of proof of special category certificate i.e. ST/SC/OBC, differently-abled.
    5. Attested copy of 10th Marksheet/ Admit card indicating the Name and Date of Birth.

Although registration is not a one-time procedure. Once the registration is done for the Foundation course, it will be valid for three years. In addition to that, it can be revalidated any number of times for a further three years by depositing nominal fees decided by the council from time to time.

CA Foundation Course Fees

The CA Foundation Course fee for Indian students is Rs. 10,900 and for foreign students, it is $1065. However, it is not to paid as a one-time payment. At the time of registration, you need to pay Rs. 9000 plus Rs. 200 for the cost of foundation prospectus. We also recommend to subscribe for the students journal as you’ll get latest update from it. While filing the foundation exam form, you’ll need to pay Rs 15oo.

For foreign students, the registration fee will be $700 plus $20 for the cost of foundation prospectus. The exam form fee for foreign students is $325.

The CA exam form fee for Kathmandu centre is Rs. 2200. Once the above registration process is completed, the Study Material will be dispatch to the candidates through the Centralized Dispatch System (CDS).

Exemption: ICAI has given a 75% concession in the registration fees for the CA candidates from some specific states. Read more details at CA Foundation Fee Structure.

Duration of Study Period for CA Foundation Students

Once your registration is done, open your books and prepare well for the CA Foundation exams. Don’t just think to crack the exam instead of it prepare for a high score. CA Foundation course is just the beginning of CA journey. Dream big from the beginning so that you will not face failure and be in a better position.

You will get four months study period after the registration which is more than enough to secure 70% marks. CA Foundation Exam Form

Registration for the CA Foundation course is not enough to appear in the exams. You also have to fill the exam form to inform ICAI that you are appearing in the exam. You can fill the CA Foundation Exam form from the ICAI portal after making the requisite examination fees.

Candidates are also need to attest the CA Foundation declaration form with the exam form. The declaration form is the validation that the documents submitted and attested are original and not fake.

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, if the registration details entered by the candidate do not match with records maintained by the ICAI, for eg, your registration number, then you can be offered to register provisionally.

You are expected to check your profile before filing the application form online. In case your photograph and signature are not attached then you are required to attach your photograph and signature. The candidates who wish to change their photograph or signature can do so, in such a case you are required to print the PDF of the form, affix his/her photograph, duly sign the form and get them attested and submit it to the Exam Department.

Attestation can be done only by a Practicing Chartered Accountant or Head of an Educational Institution or a Gazetted Officer). But the candidates whose photograph and signature are already appearing on the PDF are not required to send the hard copy/print out of such PDF to the Exam Dept.

While filling the form, candidates are also required to upload the attested and scanned declaration. The size of the scanned file should be within 100-300KB  and the file should be in the JPG format.

After completion of the above formalities, you are required to send the printout of such form in an envelope (without folding)  by speed post to the Joint Secretary Exam (Examination Department), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, ‘ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi – 110002.

CA Foundation Admit Card

Admit Cards are required to sit in the Examination Hall. ICAI generally issues admit cards 14 days before the exams. ICAI has ceased to send the admit cards physically or offline. Now you can only download Admit Card for CA Foundation exam, online from the ICAI website.

You can download the admit cards maximum of three times. Take the print out at least 10 days before the exam to avoid a last-minute hurry.

Correction Window in CA Foundation

The ICAI provides 2 correction window for the students who wants to change something in their exam form. In the first window, you don’t need to pay the fees for correction. But in the second correction window, you have to pay the correction fees of Rs. 1000/- per application.

  1. Free Window Facility–  Under Free Window Facility a student can change his/her Center/Medium within one week after the last date of submission of the Examination form(without late fees). The details of the form are available on the ICAI website.
  2. Correction Window Facility (with fees)– Under this window, a student can change his/her  Center/Medium with the payment of Rs. 1000/- per application. Generally, this window is open for correction up to one week before the exam. But request made immediately before 7 days will not be entertained by the ICAI under any case.

CA Foundation Exam Pattern and Papers

The first two papers (accounting and law) are subjective, consisting of theory and practical questions while the latter two (mathematics and economics) are objective with MCQs. A negative marking of 0.25 will continue to remain in the objective papers as per the revised scheme.

CA Foundation 2021 Result Score Card Details

The CA Foundation result 2021 scorecard will inclusive of the following information:-
