ICAI Holds Council Meeting in Pahalgam, First Major Gathering Since Terror Attack

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held its 445th Council Meeting in Pahalgam from August 12 to 14. This was the first major national gathering in the region after the tragic terror attack on April 22, which took 26 lives. More than 130 council members and their families came to the event. At the meeting, members talked about how to make ICAI stronger, help students and professionals, and keep future gatherings safe.

ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda said the meeting was a message of hope and resilience. “Our presence here shows that normal life will continue. It is also a promise to work together for peace and growth,” he said. In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave a warm welcome to the ICAI members. It was said that such events help the local community feel happy and bring normal life back. Discussions were also held on working together with ICAI in education, governance, and the development of the local economy.

Centre of Excellence

Plans for a Centre of Excellence in Jammu and Kashmir were announced during the ICAI council meeting. The center was said to be aimed at research, skill development, and helping the region’s economy grow. Security at the venue was tight. Local police and officials made sure all members and their families were safe throughout the meeting.

It was said by members that the meeting was special because face-to-face interaction was possible after a long time. Many ideas were shared on how students and professionals across India could be supported by ICAI. The meeting is being seen as a sign of unity and determination.
