ICAI News – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has officially launched the ICAI E-Diary, a new mandatory digital training diary for all Chartered Accountants (CA) students who start their articled training on or after 1 January 2026. This move marks a major step toward digital transformation in the CA profession by replacing traditional manual diaries with a structured digital system that promotes transparency, uniformity, and accurate monitoring of practical training.

The ICAI E-Diary is part of ICAI’s effort to modernize the articleship process and strengthen training quality. Under the new rule, articled trainees must record their daily attendance, tasks performed, work hours, and stipend details directly on the digital platform. The system is integrated with ICAI’s Self-Service Portal (SSP), so students can access it using their existing credentials.
How the ICAI E-Diary Works
- Students must maintain their E-Diary entries as they work each day during articleship.
- Every fortnight, trainees must submit details of the work done for that period.
- The system validates entries, & checks for completeness before submission.
- Principals (mentors/supervisors) review submissions, suggest changes if needed & trainees are expected to update, & resubmit within seven days.
- If principals do not respond in time, entries are considered deemed approved automatically.
Key Benefits of ICAI E-Diary
The diary offers clear advantages for both trainees, & principals:
- Digital Transparency: All training records, including stipend updates, & attendance, are stored online, & can be accessed anytime.
- Standardized Training: The digital format helps ensure consistent training quality across different firms, & states.
- Real-Time Monitoring: Principals can track trainee progress easily, and offer timely guidance.
- Better Accountability: Students have a secure, and authenticated record of their training journey.
Who Must Use the ICAI E-Diary?
The E-Diary is mandatory for CA students who begin their practical training (articleship or industrial training) on or after 1st January, 2026.
In summary, the introduction of the ICAI E-Diary is a significant digital upgrade to the CA training process. It brings structure, accountability, & clarity to articleship, helping upcoming CA’s build stronger professional records in a fully digital and future-ready way.
