ICAI News – According to a recent update by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the CA final exam will henceforth be conducted twice a year only from May 2026.

Previously, ICAI conducted CA final examinations thrice a year, which included January, May & September sessions. However, from May 2026 onwards, ICAI has decided that it will conduct CA final exam twice a year from May 2026, that is, in May & November.
Why did ICAI do this?
As per the latest update by ICAI, this decision has been made after taking suggestions from stakeholders, including students & faculties. The objective behind reducing attempts to twice a year is to increase the quality of examination preparation.
How would this news affect the CA final preparation?
Undoubtedly, the CA final attempt news is bound to impact CA students’ preparation strategy in a huge way. Here’s why:
- No more January & September attempts
- Available attempts only in May & November
- A considerable gap between each attempt
- More focus on preparation quality than attempts
Is there anything to worry about?
Absolutely not! Instead, this might be something positive for you.
Less attempts mean:
- Enough time to prepare well
- Time to revise the subjects
- Mock tests become important
But, at the same time, it implies:
- Less chances; thus, you have to take it seriously
Final Thoughts For Students
If you are preparing for CA final May 2026 or beyond that period, then plan accordingly:
- Prepare a good schedule
- Clear your concepts
- Revise multiple times
- Appear for Mock tests
Conclusion
The above-stated CA final change 2026 is indeed a big one. While this means that the exam preparation approach will change from being thrice a year to twice, yet when utilized properly, this can even increase your chances to clear the exam in one attempt.
